Our 16-week 1st Grade Reading Program strengthens decoding, introduces more advanced phonics patterns, and builds the fluency and comprehension skills students need to become independent readers. Students attend two 45-minute live lessons per week (32 lessons total) in small cohorts of up to 6 students.
Students receive structured instruction in:
-
All Six Syllable Types: Closed, open, vowel-consonant-e (VCe), vowel teams, r-controlled, and consonant-le.
-
Advanced Phonics: Consonant blends, digraphs, long vowels, and increasingly complex spelling patterns.
-
Multisyllabic Decoding: Breaking longer words into manageable parts.
-
Reading Fluency: Developing accuracy, appropriate pacing, and expression.
-
Vocabulary Development: Learning word meanings through context and explicit instruction.
-
Reading Comprehension: Identifying main ideas, sequencing events, retelling, and answering questions using text evidence.
Lessons use explicit, systematic, Science of Reading-aligned instruction to help students move from basic decoding toward fluent, meaningful reading.
Lesson recordings are available for review, additional practice, or missed classes.
